Few reports of salmon spawning though I couldn't find any in some of the usual areas yesterday though I did see a salmon from a bridge I was standing on. I swan from downstream and made its way under the bridge and off upstream. Fish of about 7lbs I guess with a couple ofpatches of white fungus on its back. Didn't look in great shape but perhaps it may spawn.
Hope grayling anglers are not wading among redds on their visits. Its easily done if you don't know what to look out foe. Trout and grayling like to congregate below salmon redds taking any loose eggs, and there are usuually many, that float off downstream. Red sweetcorn is a good trotting bait for grayling though its almost inevitable that you will have to catch the odd trout first. I remember trotting on the upper Wye one day when I caught the same grayling three times the same morning!!!
Se below -you may be interested. Bring some reality to the situation perhaps????
Become a Trustee
30th November, 2020
We are looking to recruit two new trustees to join our board with immediate effect. These trustees ideally need to have connections with the River Usk, preferably with some knowledge of the valley and its river system.
Whether you are an experienced trustee or someone who wants to be involved with guiding and steering an energetic environmental charity, we want to hear from you. Appointments will be made early in the New Year.
