Nothing much has changed overnight. A little snow, rain and frost otherwise not a great deal of snowmelt. Looks like being a slow thaw so perhaps not too dramatic a rise in river levels in the short term at least.
Still can't get out safely so not seen the river yet but ice will be less of an issue I would have thought.
Weather taken a dramatic turn for the better this afternoon. Much warmer, sunshine and good snow
melt. Probably a rise to follow but not so far..
LATEST. Report of a 21lb fresh fish from Ingeston. Caught by Stacey McArthur on a red/yellow F/C
LATEST STILL
A little more on that first Wye fish of the season by Stacy McArthur. Not only was in the Wye's first fish it was her first salmon EVER too.
It took one of Lyn,s home made single hook flying Cs. It was very fresh but without sea lice. Another possible fish was seen. Quite a few kelts have been seen on this beat over the past few weeks too.
Picture of the Ingeston fish with Lyn Cobley and the .lucky lady angler. Cummon Chaps.
Probably another example of a good gillie, knowing your beat, where and when to fish with the appropriate method.
Then you get a post like this on FFF from SMS. regarding kelts
To reply. 4% is a guess. Returns from any Wye hatchery are just a guess including his own abortive effort, He has no idea whatsoever, and as for treating kelts with respect we all remember that one in the bottom of his boat in 2016
And just for his information the fish was caught today.
"You beat me to it Sewinbasher. 4% is not to sneezed at either: That percentage is about 3 times what any Wye hatchery has managed to deliver. Often these 2nd time around fish will be a decent size and I suspect that many fishers will not know they have landed a previous spawner. They have a lot more spots on the gills but may be completely silver as any other fresh run fish, so I treat kelts with great respect "
