It will address the key issue of improving salmon and sea trout smolt
survival during the critical early stagesof their migration, in rivers
and in estuaries.
With fewer salmon surviving at sea, it is vital to ensure that as
many healthy wild salmon and sea troutsmolts as possible leave our
rivers. The Conference will explore how this can best be achieved.
Leadingscientists will outline the results of the latest research into
the factors affecting smolts numbers, such aspredation, barriers to
migration and pollution, in both rivers and inshore waters, and
highlight theimplications of this for the management of salmon and sea
trout. Discussion sessions will focus onidentifying practical action
that can be taken to reduce mortality and areas where more research is
needed.
The Conference will be held in the Guild Hall in the ancient town of
Berwick-upon-Tweed, where theConference Dinner will also take place.
There is ample accommodation at a range of prices within
