See below from WUF. Seems we have had 'ANOTHER' good year.
20km 'restored' -sorry I mean fenced and possibly coppice.
4 more weir access with nothing much to fill the extra space -even if suitable!
Gravel in the Elan -well mostly on the bank but if you can get the grant - why not.
Seems too that Welsh farmers are '.understanding the issues' in Wales. Well i suspect that anglers on the Teifi are glad about that as they see miles of their river killed off buy an agricultural 'accident'.
Farmers have been getting away with murder for years and no one seems to have the bottle to do anything about it especially the EA>NRW. Wuf cosy up to them with a subsidy offer I suspect but without that doubt if they would give them the time of day - apart from one or two who migjht be conservation minded..
Only body seeming willing to address and prosecute fish kills are Fish Legal. How effective they are since the change of name and organisation and personel (What a drama that was -likewise the birth of the Angling Trust with the usual suspects involved) remains to be seen. The Trust itself seems to want to be all things to all men instead of concentrating on the core issues for which it was founded).

Happy Christmas from WUF!
Wednesday
21st December
As
2016 draws to a close, we can look back on another good year for the Wye
& Usk. In the last 12 months new gravel went into the Elan for the
first time in 104 years, 4 more weirs were removed or made accessible for
fish, the habitat teams completed a further 20km of tributary restoration
and we are winning the battle against giant hogweed and Japanese knotweed.
The Fishing Passport scheme was also more popular than ever.
Meanwhile,
farming in Herefordshire is changing for the better and the understanding
of the issues in Wales has increased, allowing for new projects to be
written and submitted there. Best of all, the principal organisations that
affect the Wye and Usk are working together and are pulling in a similar
direction, in some areas at least! Lastly, but by no means least, it was a
good year for fishing on both rivers with the Wye having its best salmon
catch in 20 years.
The
office will close at 5pm on Friday 23rd December, opening again on the 3rd
January. In the meantime, the online system remains open for anyone who
wants to book fishing.
For
those that have yet to complete their Christmas shopping (or anyone
fancying a little self-indulgence!) there is still just over a day to go in
our fundraising
auction, which closes at 9am
on Friday 23rd.
You
can bid for everything from sponge cakes to career coaching and kayak
fishing, as well as access to some exclusive salmon and trout beats and
some lovely accommodation in the Welsh Marches. There are still some
fantastic lots that have yet to receive a bid. For anyone wanting to bring
a party to the Hay Festival next year this
and this
would be perfect. Both have the bonus of coming with some nearby trout
fishing on the delightful river Arrow. The Hymns is a truly beautiful and
historic house and this is a unique opportunity to stay there.
To
those that have submitted a successful bid we will send out an email to
confirm that they have won sometime after 9am on Friday.
Thank
you to everyone who has taken part in our first auction. We will be running
similar events in coming years but in the meantime, season's greetings to
everyone and best wishes for 2017 from all at the Wye and Usk Foundation.
