Another small coloured spate on the upper beats now extending towards Hereford.  Doubt if anything will be caught today on the upper river beats downstream of the Ithon.

Fish yesterday;

Wyesham 10lbs
Ross AC   10lbs
Redbrook 5lbs

3 fish from the Edw junction pool too apparently  Wonder where they were bound for and wiill they now make it!!!

Also this 11lb fish from the Golden Mile to Bob Mason

With the season over today the river now become the haunt of the coarse angler, a time when most of the coarse fish will be in top  condition and up for a fight.

An example below of a barbel in tip top condition .  Caught by Geoff Morgan from The Warren at Hay on Wye.  Lets hope it lays off the salmon redds a little later on!!

For the attention of Mr Franks

I am writing to ensure you don’t miss the above seminar if you are able to attend. This email is being sent to a general email address because I was unable to secure specific contact details. Please forward this to the appropriate person, and we would be grateful to receive precise contact details if this is possible.

The agenda focuses specifically on issues in Wales, but I thought that the content might still be of interest to you or others in your organisation - so please do pass this information to colleagues as appropriate.

Please note there is a charge for most delegates, although concessionary and complimentary places are available (subject to terms and conditions - see below).

The focus:
  • Policy priorities for the future of the environment in Wales, including:
o   Sustainable management of natural resources;
o   Improving air quality; and
o   Practical challenges for climate adaptation, particularly in the areas of flood prevention, energy and waste policy.

Context:
  • Brexit and its potential effect on the future of key policy packages such as:
o   The circular economy;
o   Energy Union;
o   Water management;
o   Birds and Habitats Directives; and
o   Financial support and export opportunities for farmers.
  • The development of the statutory National Natural Resources Policy, due to be published in Spring 2017;
  • The implementation of measures designed to reduce landfill and promote recycling outlined in the Environment (Wales) Act and expected to come into force in 2017; and
  • The forthcoming first State of Natural Resources Report (SoNaRR) from Natural Resources Wales.
  • The Welsh Government’s consultation on proposed changes to the way local authorities and public bodies manage air pollution;
  • Recent reports indicating that more than 40% of Welsh Councils don’t have any air quality monitors outside schools; and
  • The Welsh Government’s target of a 40% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2020, which it is currently projected to miss.

Key discussion points:
  • Supporting the sustainable management of Wales’ natural resources - including biodiversity, marine conservation and sustainable land use;
  • Next steps for planning and environmental law in Wales, particularly in relation to protecting natural resource management;
  • Regulating extractive industries and managing their effects on the local environment;
  • Improving air quality across Wales in light of findings that all four designated ‘clean air zones’ in Wales have illegally high pollution levels;
  • Strategies for assessing and adapting to the consequences of climate change including: flood prevention, other infrastructure resilience and changing agricultural practices; and
  • Priorities for Wales’ contribution to limiting climate change including:
o   Supporting low-carbon energy projects;
o   Improving energy efficiency in buildings and business processes; and
o   Increasing recycling, re-use and energy from waste.

The draft agenda is copied below my signature, and a regularly updated version is available to download here. The seminar is organised on the basis of strict impartiality by the Policy Forum for Wales. Follow us @PFWEvents for live updates.
