Get women hooked on angling
Women’s Sport Week returned for a second year during October 3 to October 9. Organised by Women in Sport, it provided a great opportunity for sports clubs, organisations and governing bodies to promote female participation in sport while raising awareness and increasing the profile of women’s sport.
Historically, women have been very successful anglers and Miss Georgina W Ballantine still holds the record for the biggest salmon ever caught in the UK. Miss Ballantine’s impressive catch weighed 64 lb and was netted in the River Tay, Perthshire in 1922.
Recent years have seen an increase in the number of female anglers and the physical and mental benefits of spending time outdoors are well-documented. From stress relief to an increased sense of well-being, spending time in nature really does provide the ideal opportunity for you to feel good. With this in mind, why not invite your mum, sister or daughter fishing with you the next time you go. It’s possible that they’ll be hooked for life.
For all the latest information on events and angling opportunities, visit the Angling Trust’s Get Out There – Get Fishing website, where you can find out about angling events, fisheries and venues near you. Don’t forget to bookmark the site so that you’re ready for next year too.
