I see they are already at it above Llanwrthwl and no doubt others will follow. Still the fish swam off strongly but often they do -initially.
Pity a couple of Wye fishermen 'liked' this post though one of them almost never harms a fish - you can't if you make em up can you .............!
Fishing to the 25th
I had a few hours up river today. I'm lucky that a club I'm in has a stretch above Llanwrthwl so I thought I would go and have a look, having never been there before. I really went to do some grayling fishing but packed a couple of double handers in just in case. ( I need the practice) I decided to give my 7/8 switch rod a go, mainly because I hadn't had a chance this year to try it and the rive wasn't that wide.
I put a inter poly tip on with a home tied cascade and not expecting to catch anything I gave it a go..... After about 5 casts, bang! A coloured cock of about 7-8 lbs. The hook came out (barbless) as the fish slipped into the net. The fish never left the water and swam off very strongly. Never did get to go for the grayling. Next time maybe...
Hmmm!

WUF Annual Meeting & Farm
Walk
20th
October, 2016
There
are two upcoming WUF events that we'd very much like to invite you to. The
first of these is our 2016
Annual Meeting, at
6.30pm on Friday 4th November at the Angel Hotel, Abergavenny.
This
year's meeting will include a review of 2016, including WUF's work in the
past year along with our plans for the next 12 months and the disturbing
electro-fishing results. We will give our opinions on both and what we
should do to minimise the impact of the poor 2015/16 spawning.
Kate
Speke-Adams (WUF's Head of Land Use) has just completed a Nuffield
scholarship that has taken her around the world looking at how farmers
manage their soils. She will present on her findings and what the lessons
for the Wye and Usk catchments are.
The
final section will be a brief update on the formation of the new fishery
owners' organisation, the Wye Catchment Conservators.
As in
previous years there will be a chance to ask questions to all the speakers.
There will also be a free buffet and the Angel's bar will of course be open
(but sadly, not free!).
Everyone
is welcome to the meeting but numbers are limited so please let us know in
advance if you are coming by phone (01874 711 714) or email admin@wyeuskfoundation.org
The
second event is our Autumn
Farm & River Walk, at 10am on Sunday 6th November at
Caradoc Court, Sellack, Nr Ross-on-Wye, during which we will be
demonstrating what some farmers are doing to protect the river. We will
also show various aspects of our farm team's work, including mitigating
risk of runoff, assessing soil health, woodland and forestry management,
livestock management and enhancing on farm wildlife habitat.
The
cost for the walk is £25 for adults and £12.50 for children. Lunch is
included and the walk will return to Caradoc around 3.30pm. |
This year's WUF Annual meeting is at 6.30pm on Friday 4th
November at the Angel Hotel, Abergavenny
How we stop this happening is a theme of both the Annual
Meeting and the Farm & River Walk on Sunday 6th November
Numbers
are limited to this event too so please book early to avoid disappointment.
To book your place please contact us on 01874 711 714 or email admin@wyeuskfoundation.org.
More details of this event, including costs, can be found on WUF's website.
All
the best from WUF. |
