River continues to drop away but even so lack of reports from the lower river are really worrying with beats below Monmouth seemingly producing nothing at what should be prime time for them and very little is being seen.

No fish reported yesterday so far.
One fish on Saturday from Lower Carrot it seems, 10lbs to Steven Bott on a mepps.
However Bigswier are reported to have 20 fish recorded to date so some fish must have gone unreported.
Several seen at Llandogo on Saturday but nothing caught.Very little else seen.

The Rigsby character is at it again.  He never misses an opportunity to have a dig at RWGA and WSA .
His knowledge of Wye salmon, I think his score is two perhaps three, could be written on the back of a postage stamp though he does like to pour through old statistics.  This is what he said on a forum to which I cannot reply. So I will do so here if you will indulge me..  This is what he said;

"Was talking to a fourth generation Severn estuary netsman the other day. He was talking about naive angler pessimism (the doom and gloomers) and mentioned as an example the RWGA Wye daily reports. He wasn't very complimentary. What he said was that to read them you would think that in the old days there weren't good years and bad years and we should always be expecting to catch salmon - despite the conditions."
--------------------------------

Not sure i have ever said anything like that. Never been called naive before! I report the catches as they are.  To say it is poor at the moment is true. To say its a poor season so far is true. To say low water condition are not conducive to catches on the upper river is true. Though he commented high water was not good either a season or to ago.  The fact is conditions dictate catches and where fish are caught, assuming the fish are there of course.  At the moment they appear not to be in any real numbers. Lower beats below Monmouth especially should, thanks to low water be catching fish now in numbers as these are the water heights they have been waiting for and the time of year too historically.  Its not pessimistic to say that at the moment they are not. Not everyone likes the truth it seems.
So Mr Rigsby i take no lessons from a fourth generation netsman of all people and even less from a novice like yourself.  There are plenty of four generation anglers who would I believe say the same as I.  Of course there were good years and not so good years throughout the Wye's history but none pre WUF as bad as now.

317 fish near the end of June is pretty much a nonsense by any standards. That's a fact. If some see it as doom and gloom that's their problem but it's still a fact.

Some potential good news below for Scotland and perhaps the rest of the North Atlantic salmon stocks.  However actions will speak louder than words and lets see if they follow it up with deeds.
