There were fish yesterday.
A 12lb fish from way up at Dolgau to Ian Spalding on fly, a black and orange thing as he describes it.
2 also from Builth Town waters, a 12lb fish to Brian Metcalf spinning and another fish? to Tom Rigsby.
With levels destined to continue to drop slowly in the abscence of any rain for at least a couple of days
prospects will continue to improve. Lugg still has plenty of water and lower beats will be slower to come into condition. Certainly not this weekend I suspect.
With fish so well spread out now a fish can be expected from anywhere and catches must surely rise considerably for a couple of weeks.. We desperately need a good June.
A fish today from the Spreadeagle - a good place at this height, Nigel Smith. 16lbs.

Welcome Government Decision Not to Impose Unfettered Access to Rivers in Wales
Anglers
and countryside organisations are delighted that the Welsh Government has
shelved its plans to impose universal access for canoes to rivers in Wales. The
Minister for Culture and Sport, John Griffiths announced on Friday that the
Government has no intention of pursuing primary legislation in this assembly
term and that it will continue to support Voluntary Access Agreements.

Operation
CLAMP DOWN 2: Update
Operation
CLAMP DOWN 2 remains ongoing throughout SE England, targeting illegal fishing
during the coarse close season. Here's the latest update from Dilip Sarkar - our
Fisheries Enforcement Manager: "This year Voluntary Bailiffs are working closely
with Environment Agency staff and all police forces throughout the area. This
demonstrates the partnership approach to intelligence and offenders now being
taken, and directly supports Project
TRESPASS. So far, the rivers have been very quiet - which could be an
indication that this proactive approach is working."
All anglers are
urged to report information and offences to the EA on 0800 80 70 60, or the
police on 101/999 if appropriate.

After
40 Years Salmon Get £12m Yorkshire Home
Salmon
and sea trout from the North Sea will create Yorkshire’s most valuable fishery
worth at least £12.5 million a year - in a river barred to them for nearly 40
years.
A
barrage on the River Derwent, at Barmby on the Marsh, will be opened eight hours
a day from Saturday (May 24) instead of always being closed. It will allow
thousands of salmon and sea trout migrating along the Ouse from the sea to enter
the 72-mile river and its tributaries as well as benefiting eels, lamprey and
shad.

Defra
Publishes Legal Opinion on Canoeists' "unconvincing" Claims of Universal Access
After
long-running correspondence and a formal complaint from Fish Legal, Defra has
now published its legal opinion confirming that there is no general Public Right
of Navigation (PRN) on non-tidal rivers or other inland waters in England and
Wales.
Commenting
on a thesis published by Rev Dr Caffyn - upheld by canoeists as establishing a
universal right to canoe wherever and whenever they like - Defra Legal said:
"The document appears to be a thesis for a Masters degree written by someone who
admits to having no legal training. He has published the thesis himself. The
basic point which the writer seems to wish to achieve is to open up the rivers
for canoeists at the expense of anglers".

Barnsley
Metropolitan Borough Council Causes Escape of Hundreds of Fish
Fish
Legal is representing the Barnsley & District Amalgamated Anglers' Society
after Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council opened a sluice at Worsbrough
Reservoir allowing fish to escape from the club waters. Carp (some were specimen
fish of significant value) were smashed against a stone wall with little chance
of survival. The club cannot hold fishing matches and most of its fishing
platforms cannot be used during low water. Fish Legal has written to the
Council setting out the club's claim for replacement fish, loss of amenity, loss
of spawning potential and losses of membership, ticket sales and other
income.
If your club is not a member of Fish Legal call 01568 620 447 to
join.
