Another moderate lift in levels overnight will pretty much put paid to upstream beats today, even the high water ones I would suspect with probably more colour though it was clearing well yesterday..  Would wait a couple more days personally but someone might get lucky.  April 1st too remember!!!!

River really coloured this morning. wonder how many had a wasted journey.  NEVER plan to fish the Wye even  the following day if there is rain about -how many times!!!   Tuesday would be a good time in my opinion -that's if it doesn't rain again on Monday night which is a possibility.

Saw this on one of the internet forums;   Perhaps I am one of the 'others' who runs the river down.
I suspect the reply by Mr Marsh Smith  aka new kid, is somewhat tongue in cheek, once again trying to adapt the situation to his own way of thinking or trying to re write history
He's been around long enough to know the history re the Wye and its early springers.  It was pretty common in the past for the lower river not to get much fishing in the spring at all and it was the middle and upper beats that had the cream of the early spring fishing and early water was always a godsend to the early beats even from the end of january.  A wet year always gives bigger numbers that a dry one and days lost to fishing has always been similar for one reason or another.
Its a sure fact that the very early Wye springers are virtually no more, Several big fish this year have shown signs of having been in the river for some time, as they often were at this time of year and seem to be the remnants of the very early fish, just a handful or so.

Of course we expect fish numbers to increase during April and May and even June, though in days past the best of the middle and upper river fishing was often over by early June - save of course for s wet summer.
So, if the lower river doesn't get fish then the middle and upper river should and given the running water we have had the expectation was that fish would be well upriver. They obviously are not either because they are not there or that the early spring run is late. Let's hope it's the latter.
Why do people who should know better deny the obvious.   Oh and I won't  even mention the year of 1,000 fish before the end of March

We know its the job of you and others to run the Wye down but look carefully at the statistics over the years. Most March fish are taken from Hereford to sea - not surprising given their direction of travel. In a wet year this is the section that takes longer to recover after rain so will have lost a lot more days in 2017 than even 2016

Above Hereford, there will have been a few more fishable days but fish, in numbers are yet to arrive this far upstream. So with less than half the fishable days of last year 21 is probably on a par with recent March numbers. Its still high 1st April but the forecast is for less rain. Lets see what April brings.........
