Time to cut your throat in despair at the current situation.   Absolutely diabolical

Assessment of Salmon Stocks and Fisheries in England and Wales: Background Report 2020 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Annual reports on the status of salmon stocks and fisheries in England and Wales have been  produced since 1997. These reports present a preliminary assessment for the most recent year  to assist the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) in providing scientific advice to the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organisation (NASCO) and to provide early  feedback to fishery managers and anglers.

Angling effort was likely to have been impacted to some degree by the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the resulting access and movement restrictions imposed to prevent its  spread throughout England and Wales. Stock assessment procedures have therefore  included adjustments to account for this impact. Despite the COVID-19 restrictions, the  provisional declared rod catch in 2020 (11,440 fish) increased by 25% on the confirmed  catch for 2019 but was the sixth lowest in the time series (since 1988).

Further details can be found in both reports in the links.

In addition we have attached  the Welsh summary documents describing the status of both salmon and sea trout stocks in Wales.

Salmon stocks in Wales:  All 23 principal salmon rivers in Wales remain highly vulnerable, either classed as ‘At risk’ (11 of 23 48%) or ‘Probably at risk’ (12 of 33 52%)
