River on a bit of a yo yo effect at the moment, dropping in most areas but some more rain on uppermost river may initiate another small rise.    Having fished the river for best part of 60 year there is no doubt whatsoever that the river now drops at a much faster rate then it ever used to.  Spates in the past gave long periods of unfishability with the river only slowly dropping away.  Now it seems to be less than a week before a spate becomes fishable even on the middle river.  Obviously more drainage from forestry and farming practices have had a big effect.

Returning to yesterdays photographs of the Edw , kindly sent me by Mr Pennings, another long time Wye fisherman, it does seem that the EDW did in fact hold a considerable number of spawners.  In fact fish were jumping at Edw falls up to 90 times per hour.   Many were of course multiple jumpers trying to access the falls but experience there and on upper Wye tributaries and also the main stem, were not inconsiderable.   problem is of course we than had several huge spates once again which would certainly have an impact, especially those of the main stem/   Juvenile surveys should reveal more perhaps.

I need to get rid of a lot of flies.  just put these on Ebay if anyone is interested, (£20) please  let me know.

Mostly six 3/0 to 5'0 in a fox box.
