Fish from the Golden Mile yesterday where Brian Betts netted a `10lb plus fish on a wooden devon followed shortly by a barbel to the same size and on the same bait.
Further evidence of dead swans  and irrigation going full pelt on the potato fields.  Its criminal behaviour

Further details of catches put Wyesham now on 93 Bigswier 65 Upper Bigswier 23 and Coedithiel 20 though I suspect catches are somewhat higher on some beats.

Below is an old letter written to Robert Pashley by a Mr A Lucas asking for permission to mention him in a book he is in the process of writing and also to include some photographs,.  Does anyone know of a book regarding the Wye written by Mr Lucas?

below is a somewhat chaotic reply and scribbles by Mr Pashley.

It also mentions years around the early 1940s and gives a list of fish over 30lbs  during some of those years.     Hard to believe those sort of numbers now.

Whilst in the Gillies Association we used to object to all new abstractions and discharges into the Wye.  We did this in co operation with S&T Association who used to send them to us as at that time they were published in the London Gazette.   They no longer are.

We had a long reply from Dafydd Evans the then head of fisheries.   Below is an extract from that letter
and in essence is says that due to the constraints of society and the need to abstract and discharge into our river we cannot and should not expect them to be pristine.  TGhey wont do anything anyway unless they are convinced it would work.
