Fish seem well scattered now and thin on the ground with many unwilling to co operate when covered.;
Still strange tint to the water on bottom and lower middle beats.  Hard to believe its suspended matter from the recent small spate.  Algae of some sort again perhaps?

Sorry there was no blog yesterday, had a last minute invitation to fish with an old friend at our once regular reservoir, Daycote Water.
Day started out in traumatic manner as I spent a good hour touring around a couple of villages near Ludlow trying to find my friends new house.  No phone signal as usual but eventually found it -well he came and met me actually.
Anyway we arrived at Draycote to find a warm blazing sun out of a clear blue sky and a stiff ripple.  Kiss of death.   We usually like to fish the dries so decided to give it a try anyway.  Decided I would use my 12foot rod, rated 3/4 which I sometime use for nymphing on the Wye.  We set off and a few hundred yards out we found a nice looking wind lane.
No bear in mind, and I have mentioned it before, but some of my old reservoir mates nicknamed me Golden Bol**cks as I often seemed luckier than them.   The first proper cast I got out up came a fish and nailed the hopper as though to say welcome back.  Good start but It sort of went downhill from there.  No feeding fish on the surface that we could find anywhere so eventually early afternoon we decided to anchor up in my favourite spot, rainbow corner.  Took off the dries and put on two small gold head Hares Ears just to get down a bit/.  They liked that and we spent a nice afternoon catching some top conditioned rainbows between 2 1/2 and 4lbs  which gave the 3/4weight rod a good workout.  We came off the lake at about 6.30pm with our 12 fish limit.  Excellent result.

Below are the two flies that did the job..Size 12  2mm gold bead, hares ear dubbing, one with a red copper wire rib, the other with a fine holographic rib.  Bit beaten up now but all the better for that probably, needs to be scruffy and well picked out hares ear.
