Still respectable water levels on the upper Wye and Irfon with some colour. Dropping slowly but has yet to have any real effect on the lowest beats.
Bigswier have released figures which show an up to date total of 49 including a couple of twenty pounders. Some friends fished there yesterday. One fish lost. Plenty of fish seen varying from good sized fish to bright grilse so hope for mid /upper river Difficult to get them to take however. Perhaps other beats might produce figures eventually!!

Some idea here of the scale of Wye salmon poaching in the past

Those were the days.
Found a couple of old photos relating to a couple of the incidents I featured over the last few months.
This is Ian Botham fishing at the Nyth in 1988. The accompanying column describing this in the newspaper was done by Frank Keating. In itself a masterpiece in how to blow up something pretty ordinary to an over the top descriptive article.
