Yesterdays rain is now running off the upper river and barely affected lower beats so far.
There was another 12lb fish reported from Bigswieir yesterday taking their total to six for June.
However things are cooler and conditions may yet improve over the weekend though heavy thunderstorms are not really welcome

Mentioned \Robert Pashley yesterday and a couple of people have confirmed that he did in fact send most of his fish to Billingsgate fish market, but did perhaps give some to the local poor of the parish. A considerable income source I imagine.
Below is a picture of Pashley fishing from his punt just above the Doghole with his gillie Jack Whittingham which I have framed in my fly tying room. I fished there a few times with the last fulltime gillie there Colin Gittings who kindly gave me the photo. The beat was not only good for salmon but barbel, pike and even a few carp which inhabited the weeded and wooded area a few hundred yards above the Vanstone . Even hooked and lost one there once. They were pretty sizeable.
Here is another entry from the diary taken on the 11th April 1932.
Fish of, 18-28-21-20-14-19-18-18-26-19
He had two the previous day and four the day after.
An amazing and lucrative days fishing for sure.
