Some steady light rain today but nothing to get excited about so far but perhaps some more to come later. No chance of  a spate though that's for sure.  However much lower temperatures are here to stay for a while so should help any problems with fish survival.   I understand the algae problem on the lower river is improved somewhat but lots of green slime around which will take a proper spate to shift.   However the WUF gauge at Redbrook reads;

Live water temperature at this location: 20.26°C

Please note that temperature readings from sensors will be influenced by factors such as water depth, flow and shade.
The above reading should be taken in context with those over the past week.

Saw this on the WUF website too;  Just wonder where the evidence for this statement is?.

With support from partners such as Natural Resources Wales, liming streams has been our way of preventing this damage for over the past fifteen years.

Salmon and trout populations have recovered remarkably since the work started and the Irfon in particular is now one of the best salmon spawning rivers in the Wye catchment.

Some of you might recall the sea fishing incident off Brighton which |I posted recently.  Found these pictures yesterday of the two Red Gurnard. caught that day and which so impressed the boats skipper.

First picture is of the biggest one, 5/6lbs as I recall with the smaller one, 3/4lbs, in it's case.  I can assure you the colours have not been enhanced on those fish whatsoever.  Seeing them come up towards the boat was  a bit surreal.  As I said wish I still had the big one, often wonder where it is now.
