Another fish from the Lower river this time from Coedithil on the English side to Anthony Judd.
The 8lbs fish was taken on fly on the lip of the weir.
Green algae continues to make its presence felt and got worse during the day. Current high
temperatures and UV look likely to make it worse too.   Makes you wonder whats the point really.  Soon be calls to stop fishing because of high temperature putting fish at risk.

Late report of a 10lb fish on fly to Don Macer Wright from Wyebank on Sunday.
----------------------------------------------------------

Conditions will no doubt prompt the coarse fish to spawn sand they should be easily visible on the faster fords that are left.
Minnows are spawning apparently and someone mention the white spots the male fish develops when spawning time arrives..
This reminds me of an extraordinary sight I saw once when at the Nyth.  I was there one morning and walked to the edge of the river to discover a dark looking stain running along the nearside bank I was on.   I was astonished to see that it was a line of minnows apparently making a mass upstream migration to spawn.  There were millions.  The river of fish were about a foot wide and two feet deep of minnows solidly  packed side by side slowly moving upstream   I went and got a bucket and scooped it in and out amongs the fish and had a quarter of a bucketful of solid minnows.   I noticed too that as I did this those minnows  below the  break in the stream as far as I could see stopped running also.
My son was with me at the time and I asked him to go downstream to see how far the line of fish continued and if they were there to disrupt their progress in some way.   50 yards downstream he indicated the fish were still present and agitated at stick amonst them .  To my suprise the fish stopped running not only below where he was standing but also fifty yards above it to where I was watching.
Quite what sort of communication or instincts they operated on I have no idea but it was fascinating to see, Every time you interrupted their progress anywhere in the line they paused above and below until it was restored.  Never seen it before or since and doubt I ever will.
As an aside I looked at the mass of minnows and wondered if you could cook and eat them like whitebait.  Deep fat frying might might have worked but normal frying certainly didn't.  Just a grey porridge was the outcome.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL FISHING IN TEIFFI VALLEY

A man has been arrested after environmental crime officers from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) spotted an illegal net in a mid-Wales river.
The officers were conducting a routine patrol of the River Teifi on Thursday (May 14) when they came across a net in the water.
Following an investigation carried out in partnership with Dyfed Powys Police, a man was arrested on suspicion of illegal fisheries offences in the Teifi valley.
At the scene, officers retrieved the net which contained seven dead sea trout.
David Lee, NRW’s North and Mid Wales Operations Team Leader, said:
“Thanks to the excellent work of our officers and Dyfed Powys Police we were able to prevent further damage to the Teifi sea trout population.
“We take any activity that threatens sea trout and salmon extremely seriously and this is especially true of illegal fishing.
“Nets can potentially capture large numbers of fish and given the current challenges facing stock numbers currently every sea trout or salmon taken represents another blow to our efforts to protect these iconic fish.”
Despite the current Coronavirus lockdown, NRW officers are continuing to patrol Welsh rivers and people are encouraged to check that fish they buy locally - particularly through social media - are from a legitimate source.
if you see any suspicious or illegal activity on our rivers please report it to the NRW incident hotline on 0300 065 3000
