Hearty Congratulations to Terry on his super fish .
Details of Capture
Arrived at Lower Winforton approx 12 am to do a little bank clearing as on the day before.Conditions were perfect ,water clear and fining off nicely from the earlier spate. river height approx 1ft 10 inch on the gauge.Weather good, overcast with slight breeze.Decided to try the rod/ line set up i had with me which i had been trying out earlier with Cledwyn Davies who demonstrated and sold me the line.On the first run down "TheCow pond" i saw a very good fish show.I cast to the fish and hooked it and then the fun began. After 20 minutes of fierce runs and aerial activity the Salmon went deep and stayed firm in the middle of the pool.During this lull i realised that i had not got my guy net with me.I was lucky enough to have my mobile phone with me and prayed for some phone signal which is intermittent at best in this location.Fortunately i managed to make 2 calls, first to Sportfish Winforton to summon help,Second to my wife Pat at home whereby i asked her to call Colonel James Forrest requesting the same help.In the event Colonel Forrest [The Cavalry ] arrived first with his net and camera.Shortly after he arrived the fish was sufficiently subdued and came to the net.The drama worsened when the net when lifted broke the frame of the net but the salmon was still landed by grabbing the mesh of the net. No weight scales were available so the measurements were recorded and photographs taken before the fish was released to swim off strongly.I am eternally grateful to James for his kind response. When looking in the appropriate fish weight charts relating to Salmon our original river bank estimate of 35 lb looks modest.
