Article in this months Trout and salmon by Peter Gough, now NRW fisheries specialist, previously of course EA.
Seems to be a reply to the article by Emyr Lewis on poaching in Wales in a previous issue.
Mr Gough basically tells us what we already know.  The days of effective bailiffing is over. There are far fewer than there used to be and there is no likelihood of there being any more.   they are of course strapped for cash, atvleast for men on the ground.   He states poaching still happens but not on the scale of the past which is pretty obvious considering the dearth in fish stock. No doubt if stocks recover poachers will be back in force,

He trots out the stock replies from NRW these days. The main reasons for poor stocks is at sea, We are working to reduce obstacles and improve habitats together with the River trusts.  He tells us the best way is to work together as information is the key to any enforcement work. True enough.  He asks that any poaching or pollution incidents be reported together with as much information as possible. He gives this number to call  0800807060 which to anyone who has ever used it gives one no confidence whatsoever. It has in many cases proved a frustrating experience to say the least.
