River falling now on the upper river but still a good height. Problem is rise has not yet, at the time of posting, reached Ross or the lower river though it should do later today so its likely no new fish will be running from this area just yet. When it does perhaps we shall see just what newer fish there are and if they manage to access the upper beats. River has colour with dark peaty water from the Irfon at present.
Update.
Spate now reaching the lower river and falling on upper beats. River Irfon today was falling slowly but retaining a very black peaty colour with a lot of surface foam. In fact it looked awful.
Only speculation on my part of course but has the blockage of forestry drains on the upper river been retaining the water , as was it's objective, only to leave it festering in pools in the peat for a couple of weeks only then to be released by a summer spate resulting in a lower ph than ever before. I would love to have seen a ph reading from the river in the last couple of days. Did WUF take one I wonder? Having said that if it was a negative result we wouldn't be told anyway would we?
