Having hunkered down in the bunker all last year how quick the WUF Director emerges to try and garner the credit for this years catches.  Some of us have been here before I remember and  he was humiliated then by rushing to print and could well be so again.  Takes more that one swallow to make a summer. Some of us will reserve judgement
This together with deputy director Simon Evans claiming 64 salmon have been caught since June 17th when the true total is about 30.   Fish get reported -then seemingly reported again at the end of the month.Reckon only Dynamo has more tricks in his armoury. But WHY do it.!!!!!!

As for your question "Who is Tom Rigby.  Well one of the newbies to the river with less than a dozen salmon to his name who spends much of his time arguing with long time anglers with fifty years experience as to how things were even though they were there at the time and he wasn't even born'   There are quite a few of those around.

From the Editors Letter Trout and Salmon. July.

"Equalling the Edens success is the river Wye in Wales, where more than 400 springers have been caught since it opened on March 3rd. That’s the best spring since 1996. May on the Wye saw catches double that of  the five year average for that month while one beat reported catching ten salmon in a day. June started well, too, with a further 24 salmon reported on the first day alone..
“Anglers have been fishing with a spring in their step. We’ve seen the best run of spring salmon for two decades and they just seem to keep coming “ , said regular Wye angler Tom Rigby. Tom has only managed a few hours fishing but he’s had three on the fly with an  average  weight of just over 20lbs.   Fish up to 35lbs have been caught.

Dr Stephen Marsh-smith, executive director of the Wye and Usk Foundation said, “ There have been encouraging signs that the stocks were recovering over the last five years but 2015 has been the best to date. This is promising to be the best year since stocks collapsed over 25 years ago”.
