15lb fish this Morning from Cardora for Steve Joseph.  Spinning.
Two from Glanwye to John Jones. 14 and 9lbs . Fly.
Another from Redbrook to Maurice Hudson. Spinning.
Two yesterday to Joe Cobley 12 and 15lbs  and one to Ray 8lbs. All F/C again
 Perfect fly water down there now though apparently.
8lb from the Nyth to Ryan Densham.

Fish today from the Larder pool at Sheepwash for  Peter Finch on a tube fly.




What a strange world we live in.  Mitigation stocking stopped throughout Wales because its harmfull on genetic grounds at least in the view of NRW and its 'experts'.


However their counterparts in the EA obviously don't share this view otherwise why would they be advertising the below job at the Kielder hatchery where mitigation stocking plays a KEY role apparently.    Having said that whoever takes the job better beware that he may not have a long career there if the anti stocking brigade get their way.

Location - Kielder Salmon Centre 

The role 
We're looking for a Hatchery Assistant to work with our Hatchery Manager at Kielder Salmon Centre to breed and rear salmon. This is a key role in mitigating impacts to salmon following the construction of Kielder Reservoir.

The team 
The Fisheries, Biodiversity & Geomorphology provides a range of technical support both internally and externally for Northumberland, Durham and Tees. We have a key role in ensuring that the Environment Agency and its partners protect and enhance the environment as we carry out our duties.


Experience/skills required

We're looking for someone who has experience of animal husbandry; you'll be able to show you can work safely and methodically applying the highest standards of animal welfare. Ideally you'll have an understanding of fish biology and behaviour. Other key requirements for this job include proficiency in word and excel along with a passion for reviewing and applying evolving technology and ways of working to ensure we stay at the forefront of our field.


Additional useful information 
The hatchery is not a nine to five site; weekend, bank holiday and out of hours working will be required. Because of the working pattern you will be required to live close by; a cottage is provided for the Hatchery Assistant.
