Seems, unlike us, the Americans don't have a problem with it and show it can work.

DFO To Establish Counting Fence on Garnish River, NL

Farmed salmon escapes are taking place in southern Newfoundland that may be affecting wild Atlantic salmon. DFO is adding a counting facility on one of the rivers where escapees have been found.
