See below the latest statement of what to expect now that hatcheries have been closed down.
More polititions talk, nothing thats already being done apart from Unnatural spawning sites. So much For NATURAL Resorces Wales.

Looks like every else is going to get a dose of what we on the Wye have already had done at huge cost and to what effect.

"
We intend calculate a ‘mitigation target’ expressed in terms of annual smolt production to reflect the damage caused to fisheries by the construction of impoundments and other major developments. We then aim to meet the mitigation target by using alternative mitigations to generate additional natural salmon and sea trout production. These alternative mitigations will be agreed and prioritised with local stakeholders as part of a catchment specific mitigation plan. The alternatives will not form part of our normal ‘day job’ activities and may include:
§  Improving migratory fish passage at partial natural barriers.
§  Large or landscape scale habitat restoration.
§  Creation of artificial spawning sites or other in-stream features.
§  Other work that local stakeholders and NRW officers agree would be beneficial.

We will monitor the results of this work to quantify the benefits generated. These alternatives will be more sustainable than stocking and provide wider benefits to all species that rely on a healthy river corridor."

Several people have commented on the conflict of interest issue where WSFO officials are also trustees of WUF and making decisions in the directing of funding from the one body to another and which may benefit them personally in one way or another., though I am not suggesting it does!
