WUF report a salmon from the Nyth caught by George Tricks reported to be his first Wye salmon.(9lbs)
Well I know that's not his first Wye salmon for sure but perhaps they mean its his first caught on a TROUT  rod which they mention which seems more likely and given the low water conditions you certainly wouldn't need anything more to fish there effectively.
