Unbelieveably- nothing again yesterday. So far.

Well there was one yesterday. Joe Cobley at Wyesham had a fish about 10lbs and another from the same beat today by bt peter ellis, about the same size.

Reports too of a salmon estimated at 15lbs caught on a nymph on the middle Irfon by a visiting angler./
This hot dry weather looks set to last well into next week so the Met men say.

THIS FROM THE WSA.  PLEASE EXAMINE YOUR FISH -COME ON NOW,  ITS NOT AS THOUGH YOU ARE CATCHING MANY.IS IT.!!!!!!
All,

We continue seeking evidence of returning salmon from our SNR pond project. Last year we received two or three reports  [ one capture and two reported spawning] but regularly when asking captors of grilse or 2sw fish if they were fin clipped we are met with the response ‘I don’t know, I did not look’!  We fully understand in the excitement of the catch checking for fin clipping would be the last thing on angler’s minds. However in order to monitor the results of our efforts we need to establish how many of our SNR project fish are returning. They can be identified by the absence of an adipose fin in front of the tail as shown in photograph on poster attached.

In order to encourage more diligence we at WSA propose giving 6 hand tied salmon flies for each and every validated report of a catch.

To claim your reward we need details of date and time of capture, where caught [beat and pool if possible], length of fish from nose to fork of tail, bait used, water conditions and most importantly a photo showing clearly fin clipping.

Data collected will be passed to SNR Team and NRW Scientists for analysis.

If you catch a fin clipped fish we would ask you send details to us, either by email to WSA at enquiries@wyesalmon.com by mail to WSA, Penyhil, Felindre, Brecon, Powys LD3 0SU

As anglers and in many cases supporters of our project we ask you to please encourage reporting by posting copies of the attached poster in your fishing huts, tackle shops, pubs etc and if possible sending or handing copies to your fellow Wye anglers.

I am sure you all understand the importance of catch data collection in establishing results for our project.
