With opening day ever closer the upper river is looking pretty good and the colour is dropping out as far downstream as Hay on Wye. Hoever there is still rain tomorrow, possibly heavy so its a liitle too early to call. Will certainly be plenty of water still on and obviously high water beats are the best bet.
Once again levels have dropped away very quickly considering water lying all over the saturated fields though the upper catchment though Llangurig continues to miss much of the heaviest rain.

Angling
Trust tells MPs that dredging the Thames would make flooding worse
Dredging
isn’t a ‘silver bullet’ to solve the winter flooding crisis. It can actually
make downstream flooding worse, is usually bad news for the environment and
would have delivered a staggering extra 550 million gallons of floodwater a day
into the flood hit communities of the Lower Thames.

Connect
Right and Stop Water Pollution
Plumbing
and drainage misconnections pollute rivers and beaches throughout the UK. Check
your property is connected right. If wastewater or sewage is connected to a
surface water drain you may be polluting your local river or beach.

Building
Bridges With Eastern European Sea Anglers
The
Angling Trust’s Building Bridges team have helped sea anglers in Essex by
translating rules for fishing on Southend-on-Sea’s pier into both Polish and
Lithuanian.
Local
anglers from the Southend Pier Angling Forum, a group of volunteers from a local
fishing club, hope that this will help to provide education on sea angling rules
and customs to the growing number of Eastern Europeans, and other nationalities,
who enjoy sea fishing from the pier.

EA’s
Head of Fisheries and Biodiversity meets Fish Legal’s to discuss failings in
pollution responses
A
Freedom of Information request made by Fish Legal last year had exposed serious
failings within the Agency teams responding to fish kills, for example, due to
inconsistently involving fisheries staff. This sparked an
Agency-wide review of their performance in this area in 2013.
The
findings of the audit came as no surprise to Fish Legal's lawyers, who will be
pushing for fisheries staff to be better resourced and take a more prominent
role in the Agency's freshwater pollution investigation and enforcement
response.
Full
details of the outcome of the audit will be publicised
shortly.

Fish
Legal has made a claim on behalf of the West Lindsey Angling Club against Severn
Trent Water for a major fish kill in the Gainsborough Reservoir
The
water company were prosecuted by the Environment Agency for the incident in
February 2012 and assured the Court that they would pay to restock the reservoir
at the same level as before the incident. Two years on and the company have yet
to pay anything towards restocking. This leaves members of the club facing
another season without use of their only fishing venue. Fish Legal awaits
Severn Trent's response to the claim.

'Tidal
Lagoon' project in Swansea Bay scrutinised by angling interests
Following
the rejection of the most recent Severn barrage (hydropower) scheme, which would
have risked widespread ecological harm not least to the improving salmon runs in
the Wye and Usk, an application has now been submitted for the world's first
'tidal lagoon' hydropower scheme, also in the Bristol Channel.
Fish
Legal, the Angling Trust and the local angling clubs led by Pontardawe &
Swansea Angling Society commissioned an independent report from consultants APEM
Ltd which in contrast advises careful monitoring and mitigation to minimise
impacts, with compensation for any unavoidable losses.
