ADVICE FROM WSA RE CORONA VIRUS. IN STARK CONTRAST TO WUF ONE HAS TO SAY -WELL YOU KNOW ME -I WOULD
Coronavirus (Covid 19)
The PM today thanked ‘everyone who has been following the clear rules set out on Monday’ by the Government. He concluded his daily briefing by repeating the Governments core policy ‘stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives’.
On Tuesday WSA confirmed its support for the Angling Times policy as stated below by posting it on our Facebook page and on our ‘Get More Rods on River Diary’.
Statement from Angling Trust - LET’S BE CLEAR. THE LOCKDOWN MEANS NO FISHING. WE WILL SEEK CLARIFICATION AS TO WHETHER FISHING IS AN ALLOWED FORM OF EXERCISE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, BUT FOR NOW WE CAN’T LEAVE OUR HOMES FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE REASONS STATED BELOW. STAY SAFE.
We at WSA further added ‘we will be following these guidelines for the time being, until the situation changes or we receive clarification from Government. So no fishing or bookings for now please’.
We agree with AT in ‘understanding the proven benefits on active lifestyles, physical health and mental wellbeing that angling provides’. However, angling is not classified as one of the safe exercises in which the Government allows us to engage and we as a community, must take responsible action to protect ourselves, our families and our communities in complying.
We are aware a number of clubs and fisheries have taken action to close their fishings for the foreseeable future (and we applaud them for showing leadership) and WSA WISH TO BE VERY CLEAR that until such time as we receive other Government supported advice we are;
- Closing our ‘Get More Rods on River Scheme (GMROR) ’ and TAKING NO MORE BOOKING
- Requesting any member who has made a booking NOT TO FISH
- Requesting all WSA Members, and indeed all of the angling community to protect their families, themselves
and the broader community in staying safe by NOT FISHING until such time as they are advised otherwise.
Thank you
Wye Salmon Association
