Despite the warnings not a lot of rain in the Wye catchment so far overnight and this morning so conditions should continue to improve.

LATEST   Sorry but you may not want to hear this.  Upper river is rising again from Rhayader downstream.

You might find the following interesting and well worth a contribution

Right now the largest supertrawler in the world is off the coast of Donegal. [1
It drags a net bigger than a football field and if it stood on its end, would be almost twice the height of Ireland’s tallest building. [2] Fish stocks, dolphins and struggling fishing communities are being destroyed by these giant factory ships. [3]
We have a golden opportunity to stop them once and for all. The rules on how supertrawlers operate are being overhauled - and we’ve figured out that the best way of stopping them is to put permanent monitoring on board.
Right now everyone knows that they must be breaking fish catch rules - but they’re getting away with it because there’s no evidence.
I’ll be meeting lawyers, fishing and environmental experts next week to plan out the best possible campaign. But before then I need to know if we can afford to throw our weight behind it.
Andrew, will you chip in to help fund the biggest ever campaign to stop supertrawlers reaping destruction now?
Thanks to our people-powered campaign the destruction caused by super trawlers has finally been taken seriously. [4] We even heard from one source that over 60% of the people who responded to a Europe wide public consultation came from Ireland. [5]
Now we have to really ramp up the campaign to push through the changes we want - permanent controls on what and how supertrawlers are allowed to operate.
Any day now the EU Fisheries Committee will publish their final plans and we need to be ready to jump into action.
But a massive people-powered campaign like this needs resourcing - and right now we don’t have the budget.
But, if we had just 50 people chipping in €10 a month - it would make all the difference and mean we can pile the pressure on MEPs who will get to vote through the changes we want. They’ll be up against it because the owners of supertrawlers have a vested interest in not allowing any changes to the rules.
If there is no pressure from below super trawlers with their nets the size of Croke Park will continue to overfish, kill our dolphins and whales, and drive fishing communities into extinction.
Can you chip in a small amount every month so that we can finally end the destruction supertrawlers are causing to fish, dolphins and the livelihoods of small fishing communities?
More power to you
