Nothing new I am afraid.   Cooler with some showers but fish a rarity everywhere.

Sometimes you see something you can identify with and which reflects one's point of view.
Saw this on the salmon fishing forum.  Do you recognize the situation/;

100% Agree with Keirstream the predation in our rivers by seals ,cormorrants,mergansers,herons, is now at a stage where any salmon that smolts and comes back to spawn is a miracle. I have said it in other threads the cost of salmon fishing is going to go through the roof for somewhere that is holding its own. I was recently looking to book fishing and there was lots of choice but not lots of choice for fishing with a good chance of a fish. Beats where there is a real good chance of a fish are places where fish are held up unnaturally due to barriers like pitlochry dam , also beats where fish numbers build up in low water like Cargill and Islamouth on the Tay seem to hold their own just now but most other beats i have fished the last few years have been absolutely demoralizing and just seem devoid of fish.

I was recently shown a picture of a cormorant from a Ghillie , the bird had recently been shot (Under License) in river and had been opened up and there was around 200 fish in its gut and almost all were salmon parr of various sizes. Without being angry about it what is the point in getting a license to kill 10 or 20 if there is hundreds of these birds now resident in the rivers. This includes the mergansers also. I hear some say just be bad at counting your 10 or 20 birds under license !!!!!! No we should be calling it out and telling the truth that they all need shot or at least to only very low numbers.
If a river could be kept free from FEB's then it would have a chance but token gestures to kill a small percentage is not what is required.

My fishing in the UK is now the odd day out in spring and just popping up to a syndicate beat when the water is right on my given day and even here i struggle to catch a fish when back end conditions are perfect. Spey week in spring cancelled , 10-15 days on the Tay in Spring reduced to 1 or 2 , I used to be on the local river almost every day and i do not even buy a ticket for the river now as fishing is so poor. Most of the money i save is spent on booking guided fishing when on the summer holidays in the Caribbean or USA and your rod is bent double almost all day for $400-$800 days on your own chartered boat with local captain. Also back to fishing for trout and i honestly forgot how much i enjoy spending a day actually catching them.

Said it before Anglers never caused this decline and C&R is no answer to anything and soon there will be no levy moneys to pay the biologists as almost every salmon angler i know has given up or has reduced their fishing/spending drastically. But never mind as the biologists might find the answer at sea and salmon will again flourish in our rivers and there might even be enough of them to feed the hundreds of FEB's (In almost every river) and colonies of seals in our estuaries now.
