Been sent some old photographs some of you might find interesting.  Hope for next season perhaps!!
We long time Wye anglers often see the glint of disbelief in the eyes of newcomers when we try and explain what the Wye was like compared to the state it's in now.




These were a days catch from the Long Pool situated between the llanthomas and Maesllwych
fisheries.   No longer fished |I don't think and even in my day was not considered anywhere near as good as the beats either side of it.   Not sure when the last fish was caught there.  Imagine how a moderate pool such as this could produce a catch like that and indeed how much 'better' it would have been on the more famous and productive beats up and down the river.
OK some were caught on prawns but consider the size of the fish and the tackle available to them then.

Below a page from the fishing log the same year.  What other river in the UK or perhaps elsewhere might equal it.  Note the last fish of 44lbs.   Eat your hearts out!!!!
