The Nyth : 13lb clean cock fish from the Cafn at 10.15am yesterday on a small conehead tube.

A clean cock fish in October.?  That's a rarity for sure.   Anglers are anonymous everywhere now it seems

UNLOCKING THE SEVERN FOR THE SHAD.   Cost of 20 million pounds for shad passes on four weirs on the Severn    Read below at the huge success of this project  -NOT.

Hello,

Apologies for the delay in updating you on the results from this years shad run. Data from the 2022 season has now been reviewed and combined to give an overall picture of this years run.

Although it was not a bumper year as we had hoped, with only 254 individual shad being counted by volunteers at Upper Lode, it was still a successful year for the shad.

Numbers passing through Diglis fish pass were up by 22% on the 2021 season with 757 shad passing the window this spring. Tracking of the acoustically tagged shad also confirmed that tagged fish ventured upstream through at least three of the fish passes to the final fish pass at Lincomb, near Stourport.

Although we were not successful in detecting any spawning activity on this years spawning monitoring with volunteers, spawning activity was detected on audiomoths in the vicinity of all four fish passes. This shows that not only are shad venturing further upstream than they have for 180 years, but that spawning is taking place in the new unlocked stretches of river.

It was however the results from eDNA sampling that confirmed the final question as to whether shad had successfully negotiated all four of the fish passes. We are pleased to report that some shad DNA was detected within at least one of the samples taken from Stourport, suggesting that some fish did pass through all of the fish passes on their 2022 migration, a huge success for the project.
