River falling away as another dry spell continue. No new reports of any fish.
GREENPEACE
2022 –
a summer to remember. Soaring temperatures. Raging fires. A cost of
living crisis. Reservoirs running dry. And on top of all this -
rivers flowing with raw sewage and swimming spots brimming with human
waste. Instead of tackling
the outrageous dumping of raw sewage into our waterways, our new
Prime Minister appears to care more about removing vital protections
for nature. [1] Call on Liz Truss to
clean up and protect our waters. |

As Environment
Secretary, Liz
Truss oversaw the biggest-ever bonfire of environmental funding
– slashing £235 million from the
department’s budget, including £24 million for
ensuring water companies don’t dump raw sewage. [2]
Raw sewage dumps have
doubled since those cuts. [3] Sewage
monitors at a quarter of our beaches are faulty or non-existent,
meaning people
could be swimming in human waste without knowing. [4]
Many beaches have closed due to the high levels of toxic waste.
Without proper
funding, the Environment Agency cannot police these crimes against
nature.
Join our call to Liz
Truss to clean up the mess she helped to make by:
- properly funding
environment agencies
- ensuring water
companies are held to account for their actions
- setting more
ambitious legal targets to clean up water quality in England and
Wales than currently planned

The government must
prioritise safe, clean water - we urgently need more protections to
preserve our waterways for generations to come.
Thank you for all you
do,
Megan
