Little moe rain overnight but upper river dropping slowly,  May well be fishable  shortly with no more rain.   Some coarse fish caught but a good many seem to end up enjoying the scenery!!

ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD.

As we know planned fishing trips do not always turn out as one had hoped for. Day or weekly trips to well known rivers and beats as usual live up to the principal of 'being in the right place at the right time'.   Even the most famous rivers can and often do have the ability to disappoint either regarding conditions or often these days lack of fish.

I have been to Norway twice and both the trips, although interesting, were unable to live up to their reputations.  The first trip was to the River Guala organized by Sportfish a good many years ago now.  A group of 8 anglers or so spent best part of a week on the Guala though I cannot recall the name of the beat we fished but it was somewhere on the middle river.   Flight was Ok, the accommodation and food OK and we had the benefit of two local guides to show us the way.

The river was in good condition but to cut a long story short, there seemed to be very few fish about and I believe only one member of the party caught a moderate sized fish on that trip.   It was a big river where we fished in lovely countryside and the company was good so all was not lost and it was a pleasant week in other ways.

We did fish another beat for a day or afternoon and this as I recall was the Widnes beat somewhat further upstream.   It was here that afternoon where I saw my first wild beaver swimming in mid river.

I suspect this is a common tale to most salmon fishermen but nevertheless we are an ever optimistic bunch and will always go back for more until no salmon whatsoever remain.
