Things you don't often see.
Several unusual events spring to mind over the years
First was in Scotland fishing a small stillwater as the Spey was in spate. I watched an osprey circling the lower part of the lake I was fishing and it spent some time circling the same spot. Suddenly it started its dive and with hardly a splash plucked at trout from the lake in one swift movement and flew overhead with the trout wriggling like mad. Mentioned it to the lake owner who said it was a regular occurrence. He told us where its nest was not too far away and we went and found it the following day.
Next incident happened at Blagdon Lake which a friend and |I used to fish on a regular basis. We were down by the dam end when I suddenly saw something coming from the far bank just above Butcombe Bay and moving down the lake. I took a little while to identify but it then became clear it was a big stag with a full set of antlers. It swam right across the lake to the far corner of the dam where it emerged and then tried to jump the wall onto the road. It failed and fell in heap first time but made it on the second attempt -never to be seen again.
The other event was also at Blagdon and we were anchored in more or less the same place. All was at peace with the world and we had a few fish when all of a sudden there was a frantic clattering and a rainbow trout of about 3lb simply gave itself up and jumped into the boat where it caused mayhem for a minute or two. Never had that happen before or since and don't really expect it to either/ There then followed the usual argument as to whose fish it was!!
