ANOTHER EMBARRASSING INCIDENT
Rutland Water, One of my favourite trout fishing venues. I watched it develop in its early years and looked forward to it opening. At that point I had a little luck. I was doing a small fishing blog for the local newspaper when one of the reporters rang to say he had an invitation for me to fish on the Press day before it opened to the public. Well I went and bank fished down the North Arm and had some nice fish
The following day my friend Keith and I had an opening day ticket, Well we went and whilst queuing behind a lot of anglers he said in a load voice "Did you pick those worms up Geoff" Suddenly dozens of pairs of eyes were on me with questioning looks to say the least. Anyway the day went well and we caught loads of fish. Days of the Baby Doll, Muddler, Xmas tree and the rest.
It was some time a couple of years later that we decided to book a B&B rather than driving home and back the next day which we often did. Not sure who booked it. I say it was him, he says it was me. In any event we arrived at what turned out to be a farm house and the elderly landlady showed us our room. Well we entered a room and there facing us was a double bed, Where/s the other room I said. This is the only room I have she replied. Well we looked at each other as various scenarios flashed through our minds, mine any. He was ex Navy after all.!!!
Well we had a chat and saw the funny side of it despite our embarrassment and decided there was nothing for it and we shared the bed. There was nowhere else to sleep so that was it. All passed well without incident and we had our breakfast and went fishing again. We often had a good laugh about it many times since,
