Not a lot happening at the moment. A lot of talk everywhere about this and others rivers grim outlook but little action. However there does seem to be an initiative by some Herefordshire Framers to try and put their house in order/(See WUF site) We shall have to wait and see.
No reports of any spawning fish just yet but is anyone out looking
On the subject of spawning;
https://www.wyeuskfoundation.org/News/another-bad-year-for-salmon-catches
“In recent years the Usk has become a catchment
of two halves when it comes to salmon production. After the disastrous spawning
winter of 2015/16, the numbers in the upper catchment are increasing but in the
middle and lower river they remain inexplicably low.”
Interestingly
around 10 years ago we were told of a growing population of illegally stocked
Barbel in the Usk below the Chain Bridge area. Maybe these invasive and illegal
species have had the same effect that they have had on the Wye, on the Usk?
