Things look set to hot up on the temperature fron with forecaster suggesting several days of temperatures in the high 20s centigrade.  Lets hope there are no fish deaths and quite frankly why is anyone fishing under these conditions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No doubt many of you watched the  Rivercide documentary last night and wonder if your interpretation of it was the same as mine.

First the positive is the fact that those out there who were unaware of the pollution problem on the Wye and Usk and in fact Nationwide are now rather better informed.

As for the rest of the programme I found it somewhat bizarre with nothing that most of us on the river didn’t already know.. The first section with wild swimmer Angela Jones was bizarre.  There she was confirming the increasing pollution problems, complaining about it’s ‘taste’ and smell yet happily plunges in like some latter day mermaid no doubt gaining some publicity as she continues her wild swimming business

Nathan Jubb complains about being embarrassed by taking anglers fishing and having to cancel two corporate events. So why continue to do it I wonder. In the middle we had a black Brummie poet from Spalding regaling us with a dire dirge and ending with a quite excrutiating song by has been Charlotte Church. Between that we had Lesley Griffiths, the minister who approved many of the chicken sheds in the first giving us political speak which meant absolutely nothing with no prospect of any solution.  Close chicken sheds she was asked –not a chance.

The guys from the Windrush were good as were the two ladies explaining the chicken situation to those who don’t know and the Lynfi pollution incident highlighted yet again and still unresolved.   Worst of all no mention whatsoever of our multi million pound River Trust.  Where for instance was Simon Evans its director to explain all the good work they have been doing over a couple of decades to solve the problem.  No mention  of WSA and it monitoring work either for that matter. No sight of a farmer  or anyone from Welsh Water to give their side of the story if they have one to give.

All in all a total Welsh Government failure who have been unwilling to fund NRW to do its job even if it might be capable of doing so.   Depressing in the extreme.
