River dropping away still but heavy colour though clearing nicely on upstream beats.  Another couple of days and it will be 'bingo' for some anglers hopefully.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a fly fisherman many of us spend time searching for the killer fly that will be irresistible to salmon.   It does not of course exist.  However new flies are created on a daily basis and most of them are no better than established patterns.   Find a taking fish, show it a reasonable fly and that's pretty much all that's needed
Those fly tier's who tie for others are often asked to tie a pattern which makes one wonder just what a we think a salmon sees in a fly.   The example below appeared in Trout and Salmon recently.   A nightmare of a fly which in my opinion is a waste of time and materials..  It will catch fish of course but so will hundreds of other patterns just as well.
Keep it simple is often the best way forward and if you think your fly will work it probably will if a fish is present.

Don't ask me to tie this pattern that's for sure.  How about a Stoats Tail, a Willie Gunn or a Thunder and Lightning instead???
