Still plenty of water from running fish, still plenty of out of season trout caught on trotted maggots from the spawning tributaries and a few more salmon added to the seasons total by WUF who now claim 570.  Not sure where these 'ghost' fish have appeared from as like many others they decline to tell us.

The WUF Director has been on the Fly Fishing Forum,

Amongst the things he said was this ;

"The reason why we (WUF) gave SNR guarded support was a) because the smolts were being marked and b) because it would show that schemes such as this do not work as well as if fish were left to spawn naturally.

That is: we supported it not because we thought it would work but because it would show that it didn't and the long term use of hatcheries could be realistically appraised and managed accordingly. In the event, NRW's actions to close the hatchery intervened.

Does this set a new record for pointing out our position? "

Well it does set a record of sorts in as much as for once he has admitted the truth.  He supported SNR  only in the hope of seeing it fail so that yet again he could espouse his 'hatcheries don;'t work' belief and get the warm glow of NRW approval too.
