Striped Bass Proposed for Species at Risk Act

Striped bass in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence have been proposed for "special concern" status under the Species at Risk Act, and the period for PUBLIC COMMENT was announced this week and will continue to Feb. 2, 2015. Many in the Atlantic salmon community have been concerned about the increasing numbers of striped bass in the past few years impacting smolt numbers reaching the sea.

ASF Research Update

ASF presented initial results of tracking research on alewives in the St. Croix River at a conference now taking place in St. Andrews, NB. ASF personnel have also been working on Magaguadavic River restoration through a spawning project.

Sea Lice on Farmed Salmon Have Changed DNA to Increase Resistance to Pesticide

It is now documented that in only 11 years the DNA of sea lice throughout the North Atlantic has changed to resist the effects of a chemical used to kill them.
