Yesterdays persistent heavy drizzle and occasional heavier burst of rain, mostly in the upper catchment, has resulted in another small rise of nearly a foot with moderate colour and some peaty water from the Irfon. Ithon was not too affected this time. May promote a few resident old stagers, if that's what floats your boat. Don't forget it's fly only from now on to seasons end.

10 Year Limit
on Scottish Fish Farm
The Highland
Council has rejected an application by the Scottish Salmon Company to
remove a planning condition putting a 10 year time limit on their fish farm
at Sgeir Dughall in Loch Torridon. Fish Legal worked with the Wester
Ross Area Salmon Fishery Board to draft a detailed response to SSC's
application. The 10 year limit is very important because, combined with
effective local monitoring of sea lice numbers, it will allow a much
clearer view of the real impact the farm is having on wild
salmonids.
Fish Legal is
standing ready to assist the Wester Ross Area Salmon Fishery Board should
the matter be appealed to the Scottish Government.

Cheese Company
Pleads Guilty
A Cumbrian
cheese processing company, that Fish Legal took to court in 2011 for
polluting the River Ellen, has been in front of magistrates again pleading
guilty to another environmental offence. This time, the Aspatria based
First Milk Cheese Company Ltd was prosecuted by United Utilities for
allowing whey and chemicals to escape into the public sewer system. In 2011
we secured a £33,000 pay-out for three member clubs affected by pollution
from the Aspatria site. Fortunately, on this occasion, the polllutants
didn't reach the river. |
