Things still pretty quiet especially on the lower river where conditions are still coloured though clearing with a lot of algae on the river bed which the recent small spate failed to clear.  The spate also appeared not to have moved in many fresh fish.

The internet troll, Rigsby -no not the one from Rising Damp, but similar, continues to comment on the Fly Fishing forum about anything put on our site.
Yesterday he posted this;

"I see the fin clipped fish trumpeted by RWGA etc turns out to have been a false alarm. "

I was not aware I 'trumpeted' the fact at all - merely pointed out the obvious, but he's never one not to exaggerate.He has no idea whether its a false alarm or not!
The below was later added to the initial WUF  post;
"Picture and estimate sent by return to admin@wyeuskfoundation.org. The bottom seam of the net is 33" but no way was the fish as heavy as the calculator suggests. It still had several lice but was a tad on the lean side and didn't look fresh run. Adipose fin intact! 8-9lbs was my estimate."

n.b.  Well the fish may well have had lice but they certainly were not sea lice that's for sure!.As for fresh run -you can say that again.
WHOOPS! SEEMS NOW TO HAVE BEEN DELETED -SOMETHING I SAID?

Some of you may have heard, as I did , that Brian James, well known Bigsweir angler and Instructor had a serious heart attack at Bigswier this weekend.   Happy to tell you the rumours are somewhat misleading. He did have an incident requiring some medical attention,  but happy to report he is fine and well.

Some of you may, like myself enjoy coarse fishing too. Something in Angling Times today however made me think, 'is this really fishing'.  In a match on one the the stocked commercial lakes an angler won a six hour match, fished in 2 three hour session with 936lbs of carp. Yes 936lbs.  Works out at a 5lbs 3oz carp every two minutes.
  The other 23 anglers in the match all weighed in with in excess of 100lbs.  Sounds like some form of sick joke and certainly not fishing in the true sense of the word.  More food for the anti's I suspect. Wonder what type or how many keep nets did they need.
nets they used.

Speculation now of course is when someone will break the 1,000lb barrier
