Similar conditions for a couple of days yet as the river slumps into its summer mode. Not much being seen down the bottom of the river at present I understand -starting to look pretty grim. Could be some red faces at the end of the season, and not just from sunburn!.
Saw the below on another fishing forum today. No Oscar you are missing nothing at all. Simply stating the blindingly obvious.
Perhaps somebody could clarify things for me, and apologies for any over-simplification, but it seems obvious to me.
I've no doubt that river restoration plays a part in restoring any river, but if we're honest the amount that has gone on clearly hasn't worked in reversing the trend on the Wye. There are still bugger all fish about, and habitat restoration has been going on for years.
So, why is the money now available (either through the WUF or other) not being split, say 50:50, between further restoration and stocking? Surely if there is more habitat there is need for more fish to use the habitat? This clearly isn't happening naturally, so why not promote a shed load of stocking, and build the stocks artificially, at least in the short term?
In summary, if there are no fish, then what's the point in continually restoring habitat? It's like building a 100 homes on a deserted island...
Or am I missing something?
Oscar.
