Seems that 'improvements' to the Severn Weirs is not altogether going to plan with contractors making a mess below Holt fleet weir. Apparently up to 50 bags of rocks in plastic bags have broken free and ended up in the river making it look unlikely the section will be fishable next season unless removed. However contractors are not expected back until April due to expected high winter levels. What a surprise. Perhaps a massive spate will do the job for them though heaven knows where the rocks will eventually end up

Below is a fly that looks promising to try next season . Based on the Francis its easy to tie, on small brass tubes with a varnished body making it pretty durable.
Three or four red boar bristles, red filaments and bucktail followed by a red hackle. Body red floss with a gold or silver rib well varnished. Looks a winner to me.
