Seems from feedback that due to the current river conditions and the first frosts of the winter the barbel captures have dropped considerably.  No unusual as they are not in favour of cold water conditions.

Perhaps if anglers fished for something else they might have more success.  Time was when the Wye was a fantastic dace fishing river and any reasonable swim could produce 25lbs of dace of great quality almost throughout the river.   Some dace still remain but not in numbers of old, likewise the roach which seem to be absent from many areas but nevertheless not that many still seem to persist on flinging out 4/6os feeders and sit waiting all day for a single bite.  Well if that's what grabs you!!!   Im sure a float fishing session would still provide more action.   Chub are still in reasonable numbers but not I think as prolific as before when any reasonable swim would produce sport on cheese paste- No one seems to use that bait now its all boilies and luncheon meat.   Not sure the barbel have been a good thing more the rivers ecosystem though revenue for beat owners is certainly considerable and probably provides more income for WUF than does the salmon fishing.   Sad sign of the times  I'm afraid..
