Here's a good lond read for you.  44 pages of -well you decide and congratulations if you read it all.

https://www.wyesalmon.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/200408-FINAL-PLAN-OF-ACTION.pdf

Some of us have seen Salmon Action Plans before and this is partly a rehash of those.  Problem is there was never any real action and it remains to be seen if there will be any now.   Could be a couple of years before all the consultation, working with stakeholders etc etc is finalised and any action decided upon.   Page 37 is interesting.  I just wonder how the bodies involved there will ever come to a conclusion and if its physical meetings they are having in the future just how much will all the talking, travel and expenses cost, never mind the wages they are paid.

From my own point of view I don't see it has much relevance to the Wye as most of the measures
mentioned have all been tried for the last 20 plus years and the result is plain to see.  Quite what part WUF will play in all this is unclear and as someone pointed out there is no mention of it in the whole report.  Affonyd Cymru now seems to be taking a lead in consultation with WAG though quite who they represent is unclear.  Surely the individual river trusts can operate without them with the poeple on the ground knowing their river best..

As for the rank and file anglers just where do they get any input.  Well they have had plenty from WSA who have a membership of 400 anglers.   Extensive and detailed plans have been put forward for bold and ugent action which apart from a few polite acknowledgements have been completely ignored,   WUF have only  been mildy interested and the Wye Conservators, ie Mr Marsh Smith in
particular, not at all.  In fact plainly dismissive.

The plain fact is that a couple of individuals who have wormed their way into the sphere of those with some clout in WAG want to control the whole thing for their own advantage.

No one seems to want to put their name to this document but one suspects it's been produced by those in EA>NRW who for decades have overseen the Wye's decline.  Having failed in the past just what makes them think they can turn it around now.   The future looks bleak on more than one front thats for sure.
