Friday 1 November 2019

Some extra water in today but not too much though more is forecast.  Was thinking of going coarse fishing but might go foraging instead. Seems more lucrative apparently.  Guide price £100.

A day's foraging for the fungi of Wales, with Simon Evans, Chief Executive of the Wye and Usk Foundation.
Simon is a keen forager and can be regularly found roaming the Welsh wilderness near his home in Crickhowell. The lot is to be taken in September 2020, when fungi are at their peak and hauls of ceps and other choice species in excess of 10kg are expected. This can be very weather dependent so will be arranged with Simon directly nearer the time.
Simon is prepared to take out up to 2 people or a family with children. Expect to walk 3-4 miles during the day.
Expect to find 20-30 edible species including Ceps, Bay bolettes, Orange birch bolettes, Trompet de mort and Chanterelles.

See below.

Hope they find something to see!!!

On Sunday 24th of November we will once again be holding our popular Nick Brabner Autumn River Walk. The event is named after our late trustee who did so much for the Foundation and the river Usk in particular. Nick was also a regular on these trips.
The river walk is always a little unpredictable – rarely do we know exactly what we will find or where until a few days before! If the weather has been wet in the preceding days, there will be a chance to witness the spectacular sight of salmon and trout leaping at falls. If the rivers are low and clear, we might be watching fish spawn. What is certain is the river walk is a few hours in wonderful countryside at a spectacular time of year and stopping off at Builth Wells Golf Club for a delicious 2 course lunch!
The coach leaves promptly from Talgarth car park at 10am (check in a 9.45am). You will need polarising glasses, wellingtons, waterproofs and cameras but unfortunately we cannot allow dogs as we will be walking across farmland. Should we have to cancel the walk for any reason (e.g. extreme weather), we will endeavour to notify you by 5pm on the Friday before and a full refund will be available.
To cover the coach and lunch expenses, the river walk costs £27.50 for adults and £19.50 for under 14s. The easiest way to book a place is via using this webpage or you can call us on 01874 711 714.
