Looks like a blank day yesterday. No surprise from the upper river and reports from mid river
comment on the very low levels and the amount of ranunculus weed now choking the river in many areas making some spots unfishable -even if there was anything there to catch. It does tend to come and go over the years and has always been present on the Wye. Not as much as there used to be on the upper river. Whether water enrichment is partly to blame who knows - as usual no one is checking are they. If you can measure it -don't do it. You might not get the answer you want.
No doubt the irrigators will be out too, legal or not - again where is the enforcement to come from.
It's the barbel angler I feel sorry for with the coarse fishing season looming in a couple of weeks or so. What state will they find the river in I wonder poor souls. Yea right.
Unless there is a drastic change in river levels and a run of fish, grilse,- then if you thought it might be all over -looks like it is now. Can you really see us doubling the total we have now by the seasons end??
